Events Volunteer

Community events volunteer standing with gentleman and his dog, in front of a Dogs Trust bright yellow popup tent.

Our events volunteers use their passion for dogs and people to help organise fun and memorable charity events for our supporters and their pups. We hold events throughout the year to raise awareness of the work we do and raise funds. Our events volunteers help ensure that our Centre Information Days, Fun Days, Christmas Fairs and everything in between run smoothly.

What will you be doing?

  • Welcoming visitors
  • Talking to members of the public enthusiastically about Dogs Trust to raise awareness of our work
  • Encouraging visitors at the event to take part in the activities on offer, including fundraising games, raffles and dog shows
  • Running fundraising activity stands
  • Helping to set up the event by putting up banners and laying out display stands – and of course helping to clear up afterwards!
  • Offering appropriate Dogs Trust publications and materials to the public
  • Answering general queries and directing any rehoming or other specific dog welfare/training questions to an appropriate member of staff
  • Handling cash

We're looking for someone with:

  • Awareness of our aims and objectives
  • Confidence and enthusiasm when meeting new people
  • Great communication and listening skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A non-judgemental, diplomatic and considerate approach
  • Good numeracy skills and experience of handling money, giving change etc.
  • Ability to following instructions, attend all briefings and any training sessions related to your role
  • Conscientious with a can-do attitude and an understanding of confidentiality
  • A commitment to support our work and represent us in a positive way

What this role will offer you:

We will provide you with a main contact who will manage your tasks, answer any questions you might have and help you with the volunteer rota. You’ll also receive ongoing role-specific training, guidance and support as well as an opportunity to gain and develop new skills. We will provide a Dogs trust volunteer uniform, and will recognise the work you are kindly undertaking by enrolling you in our Volunteer Merits Scheme.
