Volunteer Gardener and Grounds Assistant

Our Volunteer Gardeners and Grounds Assistants make sure our rehoming centres are always looking their best. They help our Maintenance Operative keep our grounds clean, tidy and well maintained. 

What will you be doing? 

  • Helping the Maintenance Operative keep the centre and grounds looking spick and span 
  • General outdoor duties, including weeding, and tidying up paths and planters 
  • Work alongside the Maintenance Operative with other tasks including the cleaning of Dogs Trust pool vehicles as needed 
  • Be knowledgeable on the work of Dogs Trust and specifically your Rehoming Centre 
  • Provide additional support in the lead up to events taking place at the Centre 
  • Direct visitors to an appropriate advisor where required 

We’re looking for someone with: 

  • General knowledge of basic maintenance and grounds work 
  • Good level of physical fitness 
  • Practical experience in gardening and in using a range of gardening equipment 
  • A willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions 
  • To acknowledge visitors to the centre in a friendly and professional way 
  • Ability to recognise own limitations 
  • Conscientious with a can-do attitude 

What this role will offer you: 

We will provide you with a main contact who will manage your tasks, answer any questions you might have and help you with the volunteer rota. You’ll also receive ongoing role-specific training, guidance and support as well as an opportunity to gain and develop new skills. We will provide a Dogs trust volunteer uniform, and will recognise the work you are kindly undertaking by enrolling you in our Volunteer Merits Scheme.
