Volunteer Home Visitors use their passion for people and pups to assess how suitable a prospective new owner’s home is.

Our four-legged friends are as unique as we are in terms of needing specific living conditions.

Our friendly and flexible Home Visitors help make sure that our dogs and new owners find their paw-fect match in each other. 

What will you be doing? 

  • Visiting prospective new owners’ homes to assess their suitability for a particular dog 
  • Completing home visit questionnaires with prospective new owners 
  • Liaising with the rehoming team on the suitability of adopters 
  • Maintaining a professional approach when visiting peoples’ homes at all times  
  • Being non-judgemental, considerate, safety aware and courteous 
  • Driving carefully and efficiently 
  • Representing Dogs Trust in a positive way 
  • Being knowledgeable about the work of Dogs Trust and specifically your Rehoming Centre 
  • Other administrative tasks as needed 

 

We’re looking for someone with: 

  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an excellent ability to listen 
  • Good IT skills 
  • A confident, friendly and approachable manner 
  • A diplomatic and non-judgmental approach to problem-solving 
  • Ability to work comfortably both in a close-knit team and alone 
  • Conscientious with a can-do attitude 
  • Ability to follow instructions 
  • A love of dogs and a passion for their welfare  

What this role will offer you: 

We will provide you with a main contact who will manage your tasks, answer any questions you might have and help you with the volunteer rota.

You’ll also receive ongoing role-specific training, guidance and support as well as an opportunity to gain and develop new skills.

We will provide a Dogs trust volunteer uniform, and will recognise the work you are kindly undertaking by enrolling you in our Volunteer Merits Scheme.
