Butternut Box
Discover our partnership with Butternut Box supporting our global work.
Butternut Box and Dogs Trust have a shared goal for every dog to be safe, happy and healthy. We care about dogs everywhere, including roaming dogs you may have spotted (and possibly fallen in love with, we wouldn’t blame you) on holiday or whilst travelling. Together, we’re committed to improving the lives of those dogs, one vaccination at a time.
Butternut Box’s support will help fund the Chonburi Project, a Catch Neuter Vaccinate and Return (CNVR) programme in Thailand, aiming to improve the lives of roaming dogs in the area.
Supporting roaming dogs overseas
Roaming dogs live very different lives to how our pet dogs do. They may roam freely within their community and have an owner, or several people who take care of them. They also may be stray dogs who survive on their own.
Sadly, these dogs are faced with challenges which contribute to their poor welfare, the hardest of these being disease and overpopulation, which has a massive impact on the lives of millions of dogs.
The number of roaming dogs is a serious problem in Thailand. They often have poor physical welfare, with no vet care if they are ill or injured and if unvaccinated, they can spread diseases such as rabies. A fatal disease to both dogs and humans, and tragically it claims thousands of lives each year.
With Butternut Box’s support, we are working towards the day when all dogs can live happy and healthy lives and our global work managed by our Dogs Trust Worldwide team, enables big, positive and sustainable changes for dogs in countries where they need it most, such as Thailand.
Making change through the Chonburi Project
With an estimated 8 million plus roaming dogs throughout Thailand, effective population management is needed to stop this number growing, along with effective ways to reduce the spread of diseases like rabies. The province of Chonburi is a problematic rabies hotspot in Thailand, sadly having the highest incidence of rabid dogs every year. This province is at the forefront of rabies eradication discussions with the Thai government.
This partnership with Butternut Box enables our Dogs Trust Worldwide team to support local charity, Soi Dog Foundation, to deliver the CNVR drive in Chonburi - the most effective way to humanely control roaming dog populations and diseases like rabies.
There are an estimated 100,000 roaming dogs in the province and Soi Dog’s expert mobile clinic team aims to neuter and vaccinate 40,000 dogs over two years which will help improve their lives and reduce the number of rabies cases in the province.
“This project has really captured the hearts of all of us at Butternut Box. Since day one, we’ve been clear that our mission is to bring health and happiness to dogs everywhere, and the Chonburi Project is a fantastic opportunity to make that a reality, by helping to improve the lives of roaming dogs in Thailand.
“Together with Dogs Trust, we know we can make a serious difference. We couldn’t be prouder to be working with a company whose mission and purpose are so aligned with ours. Projects like this simply wouldn’t get off the ground without the help of our brilliant customers - we’re incredibly thankful for their continued support.” - Dave Nolan, co-founder at Butternut Box
“We are delighted to be partnering with Butternut Box to support our vital work in Thailand. Sadly, rabies is fatal and there is no cure, but it is 100% preventable, so the work of the Dogs Trust Worldwide team, with support from Butternut Box is crucial to reduce cases to save countless lives.
“At Dogs Trust we are striving to ensure that every dog across the world is healthy and living happily within communities, so Butternut Box’s generous donation will enable us to get one step closer to reducing the number of stray dogs, improving their health and welfare and work towards making the province rabies free.” - Karen Reed, Director of Dogs Trust Worldwide
