Our merger to combat rabies globally
We unite with the WVS and Mission Rabies to champion dog welfare and eliminate rabies globally.
We have united with other leading global charities to take a decisive step forward in the fight against rabies, one of the deadliest zoonotic diseases in the world, which claims the lives of a child every nine minutes, amounting to 60,000 human fatalities every year.
Our merger with Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) and Mission Rabies is an important milestone in the global fight against the disease and will also transform the welfare standards for dogs and other animals worldwide.
The combined efforts of our three charities will expand our impact on a much larger scale. Mission Rabies has merged into Worldwide Veterinary Service, which has in turn become a subsidiary of our charity.
Working together, we will implement a range of programmes, including spay/neuter, disaster response, vet training, and community outreach, to achieve our shared commitment to eliminate the risk of human deaths due to dog bite transmitted rabies.
Owen Sharp, our CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for the merger:

We won’t stop until rabies is eradicated from the world forever
Eliminating the risk of human deaths due to dog bite transmissions, which account for 99% of all human rabies deaths, is one of our key strategic goals over the next ten years.
Our charities will collaborate on a variety of initiatives and expand our international work to ensure we achieve our mission and many more besides.
Through our collective efforts, our charities will take significant strides toward achieving our shared goal of eliminating human deaths caused by dog bite transmitted rabies.
We are confident that this merger is a meaningful step towards a world where every animal is cared for, every dog is healthy, and every human is safe from the deadly disease.
