Introduction and Preparation

Welcome to your third training module for OK9 Wellbeing and Trauma Dog Handlers. Please make sure you have completed modules 1 and 2 before beginning this module. There is no need for any independent or specific preparatory learning before you begin this module, however, you may find the Additional Resources below useful to reflect upon after the module.

The third module, titled “Dog Body Language” will teach you how to observe and describe dog behaviour. We will also delve into how we may interpret underlying moods, motivations and emotions behind behaviours. This module will ensure OK9 Wellbeing and Trauma Dog Handlers can interpret their dog’s body language effectively, to help them safeguard their dog’s welfare both in the workplace and at home. The module will also highlight the importance of observing and appropriately responding to signs that a dog may feel worried or anxious, to help keep both dogs and humans safe during wellbeing visits.

Before you begin this module, please read and remember the learning objectives for personal reflection.

Please allow 30 minutes to complete this module, as there will be activities throughout the video to complete. These activities will be linked below should you wish to visit them directly.
