Are you right for Dexter?

Dexter is looking for a loving home in a quieter, preferably rural area with adopters who can make him feel safe and secure in his new home allowing him to settle in with time, patience and understanding. He is looking for an adult only home without visiting children to ensure that he has a calm and predictable routine, an environment where he can settle and would benefit from a period of time without visitors so he can get used to his new home without too much change or pressure. Dexter is quite uncomfortable around other dogs, so in addition to being the only pet in his home, he will need owners who can offer him walks in quieter areas where he won’t see too many dogs so he can enjoy his walks in peace. Dexter will need gradual introduction to being left on his own after a settling in period so that he can get used to coping on his own, so he will need lots of human company when he first goes home. Dexter will need to meet his adopters multiple times to build a strong bond prior to going home and he may need visits from our behaviour team once he goes home so please bear this in mind when applying. If you rent your property, please have written permission from your landlord ready once you have submitted your application to avoid delays, as it will be required early on in the rehoming process if you are shortlisted.

Is Dexter right for you?

Dexter is a beautiful and bright 3 year old Dachshund who loves to play and learn new things. He has done hoopers and scent work in his previous home and just loves to be engaged in fun activities with his humans! He has lots of training tricks under his belt and really enjoys showing off what he knows for a tasty snack and if a food reward in on offer he is very focused and really good fun to train. Once he gets to know you, he is a cuddly boy who enjoys getting cosy on the sofa. Although Dexter has some struggles with new people and dogs, he is such a loving and affectionate boy with his humans and will make a lovely companion for the right home.
