Are you right for Tony?

Tony is a gentle and calm 5 year old Lurcher, who would be an ideal match for an adult only home, or possibly one with sensible older children aged 16 and above. Having had a rough start as an unclaimed stray, Tony is happiest in a peaceful environment with minimal visitors, where he can settle in his own time. He will need a quiet household with one or two owners who can keep him company and understand his need for patience while he gets comfortable in his surroundings. If Tony’s new family has occasional visitors, they should be willing to meet him several times to build trust. He does best as the only pet in the home but enjoys walks with calm dog friends who don’t bark or growl. Tony would also suit someone with experience in supporting anxious dogs, and any necessary leaving time will need to be introduced gradually.

Is Tony right for you?

Tony is a joy to be around, bringing a sense of calm wherever he goes. He loves outdoor time, be it on a walk or a gentle sniff around the garden. True to his sighthound nature, Tony has moments of playful zoomies and a keen chase drive, so he must stay on lead and muzzle when in public. While he has a good recall, his natural instincts mean he should only be off lead in fully secure areas. Tony is not overly tactile but will happily accept a bit of fuss from those he trusts. He loves his treats, taking them gently, and has a soft spot for playtime, especially chasing balls and running around with soft toys. His playful nature can get the better of him with the occasional play nip, but he quickly calms down afterward. With a bit more training, especially around meeting people and recall, Tony has all the makings of a wonderful companion. If you’re looking for a calm, zen like friend with a dash of playful spirit, Tony could be the one!
