Rehoming success for Ellie and Niko
Ellie and Niko are two dogs who came in to our centre in need of a little extra rehabilitation and care.
Ellie returned to our care recently as the family were needing to leave her for longer than she was able to cope with. Although Ellie was an absolute sweetheart out of her kennel, she really did not cope very well at all in her kennel – howling and barking. As there were not any available home from home carers available at the time, Ellie spent most of her time in staff offices to try and relieve her stress levels.
After a national appeal for Ellie, a lovely couple applied to adopt her with their dog, Kora. Ellie was a little unsure about Kora initially but then warmed to her calm nature and they got on superbly! Ellie was adopted to them within the week and the family have since got in touch with us to report how well Ellie is doing:
We can’t believe how settled in she is after such a short time!
Ellie's forever family
We're so proud of Ellie
For all of the staff at Dogs Trust Glasgow, it is incredibly rewarding to see her in a home so quickly, especially as not many people are looking to adopt an older dog who is quite stressed in kennels. Ellie really has landed on her feet and we couldn’t be happier for her!
Meet Niko
Niko first arrived at Dogs Trust Glasgow in a bit of a condition. The team at Glasgow worked hard to provide him with all of the care that he required. Niko was quite frustrated when he saw other dogs in the distance, despite having lived with one previously. The team at Glasgow started his training programme and Niko responded well – he loves to learn, especially for chicken!
Niko’s rehoming requirements included a direct access, secure garden with a 6ft fence and a home that would be willing to continue his positive-based training in a rural environment. He was also looking for someone who has experience of owning a dog like him before and someone who is quite active.
A family applied online for a few dogs at the Glasgow rehoming centre, but after talking to the adoption advisers, they decided that Niko was the dog that was best suited for them. Despite living a fair distance from the Glasgow centre, the couple came down to visit the centre several times over the course of a few weeks as Niko needed multiple meets to build up a relationship with his new adopters as well as covering all of his behavioural needs.
It wasn’t long until Niko was ready to pack his bags and head off to his new home – he jumped straight into the car and settled himself for his road trip. Niko’s adopters have been in touch with us to keep us updated and say that he is making progress and they are continuing his training and are absolutely over the moon with him!
