Over 500 days in kennels, Rudi has a loving home

A seven-year-old rescue dog gets rehomed, after waiting over 18-months for someone to fall in love with him.

Long term lodger Rudi has been rehomed after spending 500 days in Ilfracombe. Rudi sitting with dogs trust going home goodie bag

This time last year Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, Rudi, was spending his second Christmas at our Ilfracombe centre, after originally arriving in November 2020. He had been adopted previously but it wasn’t meant to be and in total waited 543 days in kennels for his special someone to take him home.

But Rudi’s luck turned around when Jo-Ann Glover from Barnstaple wandered into the reception of our West Down-based rehoming centre looking to adopt a dog.

I can’t imagine life without Rudi! He is just amazing! I spent about a month getting to know him which allowed us both time to figure out if we were right for each other. I walked him around the rehoming centre, and, once he trusted me, I walked him off-site too. He even came to my home to see if he liked it and it certainly paid off. I fell in love with him at our first meeting and it’s safe to say he’s here to stay – and he can run around in our garden to his heart's content! He has been with me for a few weeks now and has come on leaps and bounds. He such a beautiful and friendly boy and has relaxed so much since being here. I am so happy Rudi is home for Christmas - the first of many Christmases we’ll spend together!

Jo , Rudi's new owner

Rudi was with us for so long, but we are so happy we were able to help him find his happy ending. It was fantastic to finally wave a fond if slightly teary farewell to him! Rudi was a huge favourite amongst staff but because he was so sensitive to noise, he was in a quieter part of the centre so wasn’t on show to the public, which is why he may have been overlooked. He needed a very special home but with the support of his wonderful carers who prepared him for life in a new home, he has finally landed on his paws with Jo. We’re delighted that he will be spending his first Christmas with Jo and getting all the love and affection he deserves. Seeing our dogs go to their new homes is why we do the job we do, and we are all absolutely delighted for Rudi.
