Volunteering and Fostering at Newbury

We are always looking for new volunteers and foster homes to help with our dogs within and out of the centre!

Home From Home Volunteer Sam with Jax the Dalmatian

Centre life is busy - with lots of things going on at one given time. From caring for our dogs, to helping maintain the areas they live in and use or opening your home to the dogs who aren’t cut out for kennels, we value all our volunteers and appreciate the skills they bring to our table!

If you are curious about volunteering within our centre but unsure of how your skill set can help, don’t worry we have a range of different roles. Maybe you want to get stuck into the physical side of the centre and help our Canine Carers look after our dogs. Or, if you would prefer to steer clear of the cleaning (and dog poo), then, perhaps assisting our Home from Home Coordinators or Reception Team would be more suited to you? Regardless of role, there is always a friendly dog who is need of a fuss!

A day in the life of Sam

Sam (pictured above) is one of our Canine Assistants and a valued member of our team. During term-time she volunteers one morning week.

Her first job of the day is to assist our Canine Carers with the morning routine. For Sam this involves getting the dogs out so they relive themselves and so their kennels can be cleaned. This is probably the centres busiest time of the day, as we want to make sure all the dogs are feed and cleaned as quickly as possible. Once the morning routine is over, it is time to start walking! Volunteers walking a few of our dogs means more quality for all our dogs! Sam helps take the pressure off our staff and gives them more time to send with dogs who need that little extra – whether it is a long walk or an extra training session.

Fostering with us

And don’t forget about our Home from Home scheme – bring the volunteering home with you and open your heart up to our dogs whilst they wait for their forever home! Whether it’s puppies, older dogs, dogs with injuries/medical conditions or just dogs who need a break. We provide you with all the food, bedding, veterinary treatment, and any other practical things you need, so all you need to do is give the cuddles!
