Gardening Volunteer

Gardener Volunteers and play a key role in making sure our rehoming centres are looking their best through maintaining and enhancing the grounds of our facilities, including areas dedicated to sensory experiences, wildlife habitats and memorial spaces, helping to create a safe, welcoming and enriching environment for visitors, staff and the dogs in our care.
What will you be doing?
- planting flowers to enhance the aesthetic appeal and create a welcoming environment
- weeding to ensure flower beds and pathways remain neat and tidy
- sweeping leaves and other debris to maintain clean and safe outdoor spaces
- managing flower borders, ensuring they are well-kept and vibrant
- cutting grass in all necessary areas to keep the grounds tidy and functional
- pruning shrubs and trees to promote healthy growth and appearance
- composting organic waste to promote sustainability within the grounds
- watering plants regularly to maintain their health and vibrancy
- litter pick-up to ensure the grounds remain clean and safe for everyone
- supporting natural wildlife through installing and maintaining bug houses, hedgehog houses, bird feeders or squirrel boxes
- supporting small project creation and upkeep, such as a sensory garden, graveyard or memorial space, enhancing the experience for visitors and creating meaningful connections to our mission.
We’re looking for someone with:
- passion for gardening and a basic knowledge of horticulture (though training and guidance can be provided)
- a love of the outdoors and who is able to carry out physical tasks in varying weather conditions
- creativity, with an eye for enhancing spaces with plants and wildlife features
- commitment to sustainability and promoting wildlife-friendly practices
- a can-do attitude, able to work independently and as part of a team.
