Dog Grooming Volunteer

Dog Grooming Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the comfort, hygiene and wellbeing of dogs in our care by providing professional grooming services. Their expertise improves our dogs health and happiness and their chance of finding their forever home.

What will you be doing?  

  • providing professional grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, nail clipping, ear cleaning and coat-trimming, tailored to the needs of individual dogs
  • assessing the grooming needs of dogs upon arrival and developing grooming plans as needed
  • handling dogs in a calm, safe and compassionate manner, ensuring their comfort and minimising stress during grooming
  • monitoring and reporting any signs of health issues (eg skin conditions, lumps, parasites) to the kennel supervisor
  • maintaining a clean and sanitary grooming area, ensuring equipment is cleaned and properly stored after each session
  • assisting with training and mentoring staff or less experienced volunteers on basic grooming techniques, when applicable
  • providing feedback on the dogs' temperament and behaviour during grooming sessions to aid in their care and rehoming assessments.

We’re looking for someone with:

Essential:

  • professional qualification in dog grooming (eg Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, equivalent certification or apprenticeship)
  • proven experience as a dog groomer, with a strong portfolio demonstrating a variety of grooming styles
  • excellent handling skills with dogs of all breeds, sizes and temperaments
  • knowledge of canine anatomy, grooming techniques and equipment
  • patience, empathy and a genuine passion for animal welfare
  • ability to identify signs of stress, anxiety or health issues in dogs.

Desirable:

  • experience working with rescue dogs or in an animal shelter environment
  • understanding of dog behaviour and training.
